Washington PTA welcomes all Wildcats to the 2023-2024 school year!

On behalf of the PTA and the Burlingame Community for Education Foundation (BCE), we would like to welcome you and your family to the 2023-2024 school year. We kick off our new school year with optimism and excitement for a fresh start. If the last couple of years have taught us anything, it is that through thick and thin we’ve got the determination and Cat-itude to remain a strong, vibrant community!

We’re so grateful for our engaged community where parents are willing and able to volunteer and invest in their child’s education so that we can provide access to supplies, experiences and programs that are not standard at most California schools.  Our every-other-month PTA meetings are a place to share ideas, organize, volunteer for community events and activities, and weigh in on important school decisions. It’s also a great way to meet new people and make new friends!

PTA meetings will be held the evenings of September 13, November 8, January 17, March 13, and May 8 from 7 - 8:30.

PTA is a group for EVERYONE, including all parents, guardians, and educators of our beloved little Wildcats! As a member of the PTA, you will:

  • Be informed and involved. PTA meetings are the best way to be informed of and engaged in developments at our school.
  • Be connected. The PTA is a place to build relationships and connect with other parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Fund programs and enriching experiences for our kids. The PTA raises money to purchase our children’s classroom supplies, STEM equipment, sports equipment, staff appreciation events, field trips, assemblies and social events for the kids, and so much more! Our PTA’s primary fundraiser is our “We are Proud to Be Wildcats!” drive that used to occur in the spring but is moving to the fall, along with WamJam!
  • Volunteer at Washington. The PTA organizes all volunteer opportunities related to our school. From lunch duty, to library help, to classroom representatives, there are many opportunities to help. Please click here to sign up for any committees that interest you, and reach out to our VP of Volunteers, Melissa Matthews, with any questions about volunteering at school.

Here’s a quick checklist of ways you can support:

  1. Join your Washington PTA via Totem.  While anyone can attend a PTA meeting, only members can vote on issues. https://jointotem.com/dashboard/memberships/00059354-d993-d153-0704-8c52b23b84b0

  2. Attend the first PTA meeting on September 13th in the school library

  3. Contribute to the PTA. We will be sending information shortly about our annual fundraiser, “We are Proud To Be Wildcats!”, which will lead up to our biggest event of the year, WamJam (mark your calendars for October 14th!). PTA pays for all of your assemblies, teacher appreciation, classroom supplies, field trips and much, much more.

  4. Volunteer! Your classroom teacher needs you so please reach out to them directly if you are interested in helping.  Your Room Reps will also send information throughout the year on classroom volunteer opportunities.

  5.  If you are interested in volunteering with the Washington PTA, please contact Melissa Matthews at melissanmatthews@gmail.com.  There are also sign-ups posted in the Roar weekly for a variety of volunteer opportunities including the much needed Lunch Duty volunteers.

Have a voice in our school and please sign-up for PTA membership today! A PTA membership costs $11 ($10/per person +$1 service fee). Of every $10 membership, $5.25 goes directly to Washington Elementary and the remainder goes to the State and National PTA (all advocating for the good of our kids). You’ll also receive access to a variety of local and state discounts.

We’re looking forward to working together to make this an enriching, safe, and FUN year at Washington!

Go Wildcats!

WASHINGTON WINS THE CA DISTINGUISHED SCHOOLS AWARD!!!

Washington is the recipient of the 2023 CA Distinguished Schools Award. 356 of 5872 elementary schools received this award and we are excited to be counted as one of them.

According to the press release from the CA Department of Education, "The exceptional elementary schools recognized this year are illustrative of the hard work, dedication, and resilience shown by educators and schools across the state after communities struggled for multiple years with urgent effects to physical and mental health and unprecedented challenges to delivering education. To select California Distinguished Schools, the California Department of Education (CDE) uses multiple measures to identify eligible schools based on their performance on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard (Dashboard). Specifically, schools were selected by analyzing data reported through the 2022 Dashboard, including assessment results, chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, and socioeconomic data. Information regarding the 2022 Dashboard is provided on the CDE California School Dashboard and System of Support web page." This absolutely captures the dedication, care, and energy that our faculty and community put toward supporting the teaching and learning of our Wildcat students every day.

Way to go Wildcats!!
